SPRINGBOARD/ICT SKILLS 2015 Springboard Springboard is a multi-annual fund providing higher education opportunities for unemployed people which offers job seekers the option to take up a part-time course in higher education and training, free-of-charge. Springboard provides a large number of opportunities and places across the country for the unemployed in part-time higher education courses, leading to qualifications in areas where there are employment opportunities in the economy. Programmes will be available at all higher education levels from Certificate to Master’s Degree level (Levels 6 - 9 on NQF) enabling unemployed people with differing levels of qualifications to participate. ICT Skills In January 2012, in a direct response to specific skills shortages for people with high-level ICT skills, the Department of Education and Skills published a joint Government–Industry ICT Action Plan aimed at building the supply of high-level ICT graduates. The Plan outlines a range of short, medium and long term measures to develop a sustainable domestic supply of high quality ICT graduates to support the further expansion and development of ICT sector and support innovation and growth across other sectors of the economy. One of the key measures in the Plan was the roll-out, from March 2012, of more than 700 places on intensive NFQ level 8 higher diploma ICT skills conversion programmes by higher education providers in partnership with industry. LIT has been successful in securing a number of places across a range of programmes under these funds. These programmes will be offered at either our Limerick or Tipperary campuses: Springboard Programmes on Offer for 2015-2016
